Is it Time to Change your Career?

April 17th, 2007 · No Comments

As someone who changed careers after leaving school and working for more than 10 years in one industry I can speak from the heart on this topic. The hardest part was making the decision to do it. The benefits are amazing especially if you can change careers to something that you enjoy doing.

Why do a job that you hate? The mindset is that you don’t know anything else so the fact that what you are doing is not challenging or enjoyable to you seems to become irrelevant.

Here is the challenge, what do you enjoy doing? Can you think of anyway to make money from this? (e.g if you like flying, become a pilot, if you enjoy driving become a professional driver, if you like to sing take some singing lessons and see how far you can go!)

The only thing that holds you back is making the decision to change, become the person you always wanted to be and make money doing what you enjoy!

Life is to short to hold back, don’t let excuses stand in your way. I left stable employment when I had mortgages, a pregnant wife and no firm job offer. Everyone probably thought I was crazy at the time, however it was the best thing I could have done. Certainly my future employers saw it as a major commitment to change.

For me I went from a Tyre Shop Manager dealing with the Public and getting my hands dirty everyday to becoming an IT Professional for a major public company without a degree. All because one day I made the decision to do it, and then set about making it happen.

Whatever your excuse remember that if you really want to do it the only thing holding you back is yourself. So get smart, get motivated and bring it home.

Having a supportive partner and family also is imperative for this to succeed!
