It is prudent to avoid anything that could potentially cause you to be filtered out of the running at this point, in other words let your skils and accomplishments speak for themselves and don’t fill your resume up with unnecessary and potentially harmful information like age, sex, ethnicity, religion or physical disabilities. Of course legally employers are not able to discriminate against these things however it may give them cause to find some other reason to place you on the discarded pile.
Choose the right type of Resume
There are a number of different types of Resumes that you can create, main ones are Chronological, functional and combination.
Chronological – This is where the work history is layed out in step by step fashion ordered by date. This is best suited to job seekers with a steady work history.
Functional – This type of resume highlights two to four major skills and is preferred by those that are re-entering the workforce or changing career
Hybrid – The hybrid resume is a combination of the two previous formats and is ideal for those that are self employed or consultants
Although every resume should and will be different, it is best that is organized in such a way that it is both easy to follow as well as highlighing the specific skills and experience that you will bring to the employer and their company.
