How To Cope With Redundancy

November 9th, 2008 · 1 Comment

In todays tough economic environment redundancies are becoming more and more common. Large companies are tightening their belts and smaller companies are struggling to make ends meet. One of the quickest ways for companies to improve their bottom line is by cutting labour costs and unfortunately for those affected this means suddenly they are out of a job and more often than not its through no fault of their own.

Below are some steps that you can take to ensure that you make the most from your situation.

Be Positive!
Try to think of this as an opportunity rather than something awful that has happened to you, for a lot of people redundancy really does lead on to better things so it can be a great stepping stone. Becoming depressed about what has happened to you is not going to help in anyway, so enjoy a bit of free time for a change, and start looking at new ways to support yourself and your family.

Consider a change of career
Have you often thought about doing something different but never had the right circumstances or been to scared to try a new career path? Now is your chance to think of changing careers to something you have always wanted to do, set your self goals of what it will take to achieve that and set about making it happen.

Upgrade your skills
Perhaps you have been the one let go because others may have had better skills or training in a particular area. There are plenty of things you can learn for very little cost when you have some time on your hands, so dedicate part of your day to learning new things.

Start your own business
In some cases redundancy can come with a payout of up to several months pay, time to think some more about that business idea you have always had, and perhaps set something in motion.

Make Money Online from home
Making money online is not only possible, thousands of people around the world are making money from their home computers on the internet, writing articles, trading on sites like ebay or trademe, surveys, websites and so on. This is something I tried myself and managed to make over ten thousand dollars on the internet. You can read my experiment of attempting to make US $500 in 5 days if you like and you will notice that I have explained each way I made money and you can to. Read about the 500 dollar 5 day challenge.

I hope you find the above information useful. Remember that we are always here to help at jobhunters, so feel free to share your story by commenting on this article, or perhaps offer useful information to others.

Good luck in your new journey!

Nice article, I agree with most of what is said. A lot of people fail to realise there are some benefits to redundancy. You get a pay off, this gives you time to look for a new job. You finally have a reason to seek change or look at being self-employed. You are back in control. For some this can seem scary, try the online job searchs or read some of the interesting blogs out there.
