Weekend Jobs

April 29th, 2009 · 3 Comments

Weekend work is an option not only for those of us looking for jobs, but with the current economic climate, often even with two jobs it is still not enough to make ends meet.

To help you in the search for weekend work here at Jobhunters we have put together a list of different types of work that can be considered weekend jobs as well as the best places to find them.

We are realists and you won’t find any get rich quick schemes in this article, this is about real work for real money.

Part time / Weekend Positions

Bar work / Waiting Tables – You can get a job working behind a bar or waiting tables, most bars I visit have a sign up saying they are looking for staff for weekend work!

Retail - With the pressures of retail higher than ever and most shops running 7 days a week there are a number of retail opportunities out there for those willing to work weekends, and after hours.

Babysitting – Although it can be seasonal there are thousands of parents all across the country who are looking for some time out away from the kids, why don’t you look at helping them out and earning extra money at the same time. Baby sitting can be a very easy job, as long as the kids are not to difficult to deal with!

Mowing Lawns – Drop some pamphlets off around your area and try to drum up some weekend work mowing lawns, trimming hedges and so on.

House Work – House work can demand a fairly reasonable hourly rate, not one I would consider as I struggle to do my own. however there are lot of people out there that could benefit with a helping hand with the washing, ironing and vacuum cleaning.

Walking Pets – Get some exercise, help out a pet and earn some cash at the same time.

Personal fitness trainer – Do you enjoy working out and perhaps would like to motivate and assist others? Why not advertise yourself as a personal trainer and make a name for yourself while keeping fit at the same time. Pilates, yoga and other fitness classes are taking the world by storm.

Cake decorator – Do you have the necessary skills to decorate cakes or willing to take the time to learn? There are numerous opportunities out there with weddings, birthdays and other special occasions.

Freelance writer – If you have writing skills there are plenty of sites and forums online that are looking to purchase articles, this is something I have had personal experience in and although I would rather write for my own sites there are endless possibilities in this area if you are motivated and know how to tie a few sentences together.

Where to find Part time and Weekend Work

Notice Boards – Visit your local shops and post a notice on the notice board, anywhere you can find a place to put a notice or flyer is fair game.

Job sites – check your local job websites, forums like gumtree.co.nz, and if you prefer the work to come to you register on our very jobhunters site.

Word of mouth – tell your friends, your collegues, random people at the pub. Get the word out there that you are keen and looking for work.

Social Networking Sites – sites like facebook, smilecity and myspace offer countless opportunities to advertise yourself.

Local Newspapers – Advertise in your local newspaper, this can be expensive so make sure you exhaust all the free options first!

We hope you have enjoyed this article and if you have other ideas or a story to tell about your part time work experiences please share with the rest of our readers by leaving a comment.
