The current recession strikes fear into the hearts of many of us, jobs are scarcer than ever, the cost of living continues to rise and our investments have in many cases spiraled downwards. Here at Jobhunters we continue to be positive, lift the spirits of our members and visitors and have put together a five point plan to recession proof the modern day job hunter.
1./ Prepare to accept work that may not be the “perfect” fit
In current times you need to be prepared to do whatever you have to in terms of earning a living. It’s not the time to be fussy about the type of job that you are looking for, better to aim a little lower than what you may have in previous times, and try to find something that may provide the foot in the door to gain you the opportunity that you are looking for longer term.
2./Think outside the square
If you are out of work, create work for yourself, sell stuff on trademe or ebay, mow lawns, trim hedges, clean cars, advertise on noticeboards and online sites that you are looking for odd jobs and work, set yourself targets and get out there and make things happen for yourself. This is definitely possible but YOU need to make it happen, don’t sit at home feeling sorry for yourself!
3./Put things into perspective
At times its easy to get depressed over events in our lives when if we put them in perspective we are “not actually that bad off”, if you have a roof over your head, warmth , food and clothing then you are already ahead of half of the worlds population!!
4./Invest wisely
Be careful more than ever with your investments, long standing banks, quality houses and shares in companies that have safe historys and bright futures can all be worthwhile investments. Watch out for “get rich” quick schemes, future developments and start up companies. Better to make a little than lose a lot.
5./Cut down on unnecessary expenses and luxury items.
Sky TV, flash cars, designer clothes, booze, cigarettes, out of town holidays, junk food, DVD’s, Nights out and gadgets are all examples of unnecessary expenses. If you can’t afford them you need to cut them out of your lifestyle and batten down the hatches for the hard times ahead.

What has been mentioned in the article above is true advice, but can not understand why there is no comments been left yet.
I am a Carpenter & Joiner looking for work in the Christchurch area, and have been using job scearch engines and phoning employer’s to find work.
If there is anyone with any idea’s then it may be helpful to us all, in finding a job.
